Matt Damon returns to catch you up on Jason Bourne in 90

first_imgThere’s no denying that Matt Damon is an accomplished actor, writer, and producer. He’s also been incredibly smart when it comes to his career. He’s managed to do, at least, one project a year since he made his movie debut in Mystic Pizza in 1988. Well, he missed ’91 and ’94, but he was still a relative newbie at that point. That sort of longevity is rare in Hollywood and, in Damon’s case, he’s been able to crossover between indie films and blockbusters with relative ease because he’s had the financial security to do so.And when it comes to Damon and blockbusters, one stands above the rest: Robert Ludlum’s most well-known characters, Jason Bourne. When Damon starred as Jason Bourne in 2002’s The Bourne Identity, he became a bonafide action star almost overnight. The movie did so well that The Bourne Supremacy followed on 2004 and The Bourne Ultimatum soon after in 2007. All three movies were box office hits and there’s no doubt that Matt Damon and the Bourne name were synonymous.Of course, doing a Bourne movie every couple of years is liable to cramp your style if you’re the kind of guy who wants to work with other directors or make different types of movies. So it makes sense that, when he was approached to do a fourth Bourne movie, Damon passed. That’s how Jeremy Renner ended up starring in 2012’s The Bourne Legacy, the first Bourne movie to miss at the box office badly enough that it didn’t make back it’s original budget.I don’t think we’ll ever know if Matt Damon has returned to the role of Jason Bourne because he’s helping resuscitate a franchise that’s given him so much or if he just wanted to get back into Bourne’s shoes and run around a little, but he’s bringing both his star power and sense of humor to the game and it’s definitely working to remind people why they love Jason Bourne. Here he is, breaking down everything you need to know to be ready to see Jason Bourne in 90 seconds.Having watched all of the Bourne movies to date, I likely would have seen the new installment no matter what, but having Matt Damon back is much more likely to put my butt in a theater seat –– which is what I’m betting everyone’s hoping for. Jason Bourne is out July 29.last_img read more
