Twenty-percent of them were being treated in ICUs, and of those, 19% were being treated on ventilators. The state-calculated ICU availability rate for the 11-county region encompassing L.A. County remained at 0%, according to state data.L.A. County Health Services reported 577 total available hospital beds at county hospitals, and 47 ICU beds.As cases related to recent holidays gatherings continue to pour in, “We’re likely to experience the worst conditions in January that we’ve faced the entire pandemic, and that’s hard to imagine,” Ferrer warned. With nearly one in five people who are being tested receiving positive results, “You run the risk of an exposure whenever you leave your home,” according to Ferrer. “Assume that this deadly, invisible virus is everywhere, looking for a willing host. Don’t let that be you or someone you care about.“It’s better to be lonely than to be sick. It’s better to care for others by following the rules than passing along the virus to someone else who may get hospitalized and even die,” she said.At the state level, the California Department of Public Health reported 29,633 new infections and 97 additional deaths. The state’s average positivity rate over the prior seven days was recorded at 13.3%, and the 14-day average was 12.4%, according to a CDPH statement. As of Monday, L.A.
