by Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — Four months ago, Ray Beshirs opened Ray’s Diner in what has been fondly called the former A&W Restaurant.Since that point, Ray’s Diner, located at 1617 North A Street, has built up a following for his noted southern home cooking.“We serve chicken fried chicken, chicken fried steaks, angus burgers – everything is made from scratch,†Beshirs said. “We have a large selection of breakfast items – it is a little bit of everything.â€â€œKind of like my motto said, if it tastes like home, you must be at Ray’s.â€Beshirs, who said he has been in the restaurant business for several years, jumped at the chance to own the restaurant when he first heard about it.“It has been a great town. I just love this town,†Beshirs said, who recently relocated from Newkirk, Okla.He said his restaurant will not serve all the A&W Restaurant favorites but he is bringing back Charlie’s Cheese Fries – a hallmark of fries, chili and cheese.Last week, the Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for the new business. Ray’s Diner is open 7 days a week from 8 a.m. – 9 p.m serving daily specials for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Call in orders always welcome:  620-326-3333.••••Help wanted: Ray is in need of an experienced cook.
