Ray’s Diner features southern hometown cooking for the hungry in Wellington

first_imgby Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — Four months ago, Ray Beshirs opened Ray’s Diner in what has been fondly called the former A&W Restaurant.Since that point, Ray’s Diner, located at 1617 North A Street, has built up a following for his noted southern home cooking.“We serve chicken fried chicken, chicken fried steaks, angus burgers – everything is made from scratch,” Beshirs said. “We have a large selection of breakfast items – it is a little bit of everything.”“Kind of like my motto said, if it tastes like home, you must be at Ray’s.”Beshirs, who said he has been in the restaurant business for several years, jumped at the chance to own the restaurant when he first heard about it.“It has been a great town. I just love this town,” Beshirs said, who recently relocated from Newkirk, Okla.He said his restaurant will not serve all the A&W Restaurant favorites but he is bringing back Charlie’s Cheese Fries – a hallmark of fries, chili and cheese.Last week, the Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for the new business.
