He was a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe and averaged three assists per game and 2.5 steals per game. Honorable Mention: Shannon Bogues, Stephen F. Austin; Charles Brown III, UIW; Hayden Koval, Central Arkansas Garth averaged 30 points per game, including a career-high 36 points in an 80-72 victory over Texas Southern. He followed it up with 24 points in a commanding 121-32 win over Howard Payne. Garth leads the Cardinals into their final tune-up before conference play against Champion Christian at 2 p.m. Saturday. Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots. Men’s Basketball Player of the Week – Nick Garth, Lamar – Sr. – Guard – Houston Against a Texas Southern team that entered with road wins over Baylor and Oregon, Garth helped Lamar remain perfect at home with 36 points, the most by a Southland student-athlete this season.
