Missing Cyclist’s Body Found in Ganta

first_imgInvestigators from the Liberia National Police, headed by Senior Inspector Patrick T. Sudue recently uncovered the skeletal remains of the motorcyclist who was reported missing in July 2015.Inspector Sudue told the Daily Observer that during the interrogation of murder suspect Bill Lawrence, who was recently linked to the killing of another motorcyclist on September 30, he confessed his involvement in the cyclist’s death, saying he sold the victims’ motorbikes.According to Inspector Sudue, the culprit confessed that whenever he and unnamed friends were in need of money, they would get on a bike and ask the cyclist to take them home. It is then that they would eventually kill the cyclist and later sell the bike. “The suspect said they are three in number carrying out the deadly operation, but one of them (Decent Boy) was killed by angry mobs during the recent riot in Ganta,” he said.He said during his interrogation Lawrence confessed to hiring a motorcyclist on the night of July 26 and directed the cyclist to the Methodist Field (the same area where they did the recent killing) and then clubbed him to death. He said the body was disposed of in a pool of water and covered with leaves. They then sold the murdered cyclist’s motorbike for US$450. “After the confession,” said Inspector Sudue, “the culprit showed us the area where the body was deposited; and when we went there, we discovered a skeleton that was later identified as Prince Washington’s by his T-Shirt.”According to the officer, the late Prince Washington’s parents have been in search of him since July and reported him missing, but documents bearing the record of him being missing were destroyed during the ransacking of the police station in September. The police quoted the family as saying: “After we searched for Prince and could not find him, we thought that he had sold the motorbike and fled to Grand Gedeh gold field.” The wave of motorcyclists’ killings intensified in September when two bodies were discovered in one week in Ganta and nearby Blohn.Bill Lawrence was picked up by rioters on September 30 and during the rioting which left properties belonging to businessman Prince Howard destroyed, and his house set ablaze. A police station and the local office of the Drug Enforcement Agency were also vandalized.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more

first_imgDonegal MEP Pat The Cope Gallagher has called on the European Parliament to translate its website in Irish like every other EU Institution.Deputy Gallagher made the plea in Strasbourg during an Order of Business meeting.Following his intervention, the President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek promised to personally investigate the matter. Pat the Cope has also written to President Buzek requesting swift action. Pat the Cope Gallagher said too long has passed without the Irish language being officially recognised.“It is now almost five years since Irish became one of the 23 official languages of the European Union, on 01 January 2007. The European Parliament, however, still has its website in all languages except Irish.”“When the Irish language derogation was renewed by the Council for a further five years on 20 December 2010, the institutions of the Union undertook to continue to take steps to improve public access to information in Irish on the activities of the Union.”“The European Parliament is the only directly elected institution of the European Union and it is extremely disappointing that it is the only institution yet to translate its website into Irish.” PAT THE COPE DEMAND EU TRANSLATE THEIR WEBSITE INTO IRISH was last modified: November 16th, 2011 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:Pat The Cope Gallagherlast_img read more

Frogeye leaf spot

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest By Matt Hutcheson, CCA, Product Manager, Seed Consultants, Inc.Frogeye leaf spot is a disease that can impact soybean yields across this eastern Corn Belt.. Typically, more prevalent in the southern growing regions, the disease can occur farther north as a result of weather favorable to its development. The fungus that causes Frogeye leaf spot (Cercospora sojina) survives in infected plant debris and can cause infections in growing plants when weather conditions are favorable. Frogeye leaf spot lesions produce spores that are easily transported by wind, acting as inoculum for leaf infections on other plants. The disease is promoted by warm, humid weather and will continue to develop on infected plants during patterns of favorable weather. With the warm and wet weather patterns that have existed in the eastern Corn Belt during 2017, it is expected that frogeye would be observed in some fields.Frogeye leaf spot symptoms begin as small yellow spots that become larger lesions with gray centers and dark reddish-purple or brown borders. Younger leaves are more susceptible to growth of lesions than older leaves, therefore, new plant growth will be impacted by disease development. In some cases, lesions can develop on the soybean stem and pods.Eastern Corn Belt soybean growers have several options for managing frogeye leaf spot. Because residue is a significant source of inoculum, burying infected residue with tillage can reduce the amount of inoculum present in a field. Crop rotation can also help in minimizing the amount of inoculum present. In this Purdue Fact Sheet, university experts recommend rotation away from soybeans at least 2 years in fields where infections occurred. Starting the growing season by planting quality, pathogen-free seed. Although residue is believed to be the most significant source of inoculum, seed infected by the pathogen will lead to infections of the plant during the growing season. Growers should work with seed company sales staff and agronomists to choose varieties with strong resistance to frogeye leaf spot. Finally, if disease infections become severe and have potential to greatly reduce yield, growers may need to apply a fungicide at the R3 stage of growth to minimize yield losses.last_img read more

Ducks increase oxygen in water: Tripura CM

first_imgTripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Tuesday said ducks help recycle water and increase oxygen levels in water bodies besides boosting the rural economy.Addressing an inaugural event of a traditional boat race at Rudrasagar, an artificial lake about 50 km from Agartala, he announced he would distribute 50,000 ducklings of local species to fishermen who live nearby and other villagers across Tripura.‘Healthy droppings’“When 50,000 white ducks swim in water, they will look beautiful and increase oxygen levels in the water bodies,” he said. This, he added, will help the fish get more oxygen. The Chief Minister also said droppings of the ducks would make the fish grow faster organically.Experts in Tripura said movement does aerate water bodies, but there is no scientific evidence to attribute the aeration job to swimming ducks.Mr. Deb also criticised the previous Left Front government for damaging old village culture of rearing ducks and poultry. “CPI(M) activists would force people to attend their frequent rallies, hardly giving them time to for rearing fowls. I want every rural family in Tripura to rear four-five ducks, which will help meet protein and vitamin requirements of children,” he said. The CPI(M) said it was expected of Mr. Deb to make outlandish observations.last_img read more
